Configure non-GFiber devices

Within your GFiber account, you can reserve an IP address, set up port forwarding or configure a DMZ for all your devices.
To do so, select the device you want to configure in the navigation pane, and then click Advanced in the settings pane. If the device you want to configure is not connected to the GFiber network, connect it now.

The features below are available for the Wi-Fi 6 Router, Multi-Gig Router, Wi-Fi 6E router, and Network Box. If you have a Google Wifi or Nest Wifi Pro router, you can use the Google Home app to manage your Wi-Fi settings.

Reserve an IP address

Reserving an IP address for a device prevents your network from assigning the address to a different device. The reservation remains in effect until you cancel the reservation or remove the device from your network, even when you disconnect the device. (Reserving the device's IP address only applies to your Fiber network, and does not affect the device.)

You do not have to reserve a device's IP address when you configure port forwarding rules for the device or configure it to be a DMZ.
To reserve an IP address for a device:
  1. In the advanced settings for the device, set Reserved IP to On.

  2. Enter the IP address you want to reserve.
  3. Click Save.

When you reserve an IP address, the Expiry status for that IP address is shown as Reserved on the DHCP tab.

To cancel an IP address reservation:

  1. In the advanced settings for the device, set Reserved IP to Off.
  2. Click Save.
The IP address returns to the pool of available IP addresses. However, the router assigns the same IP address to the device, as if it had just been assigned.

On the DHCP tab, the Expiry status for the IP address changes from Reserved to an expiration time.

Set up port forwarding

Port forwarding rules cause the router to automatically send incoming requests for the designated ports to devices on your GFiber network. There are a number of ways to configure port forwarding rules. One method is to configure the advanced settings for the device in your GFiber account. After you set up the port forwarding rules, they remain in effect until you remove them or remove the device from your network. tool-tip
The router begins sending incoming requests for the port to the selected device as soon as you apply the new rules.
To configure port forwarding rules for a device:
  1. Prepare the device as necessary to accept incoming requests.Any port forwarding settings already assigned to the device appear in advanced settings.
  2. In the advanced settings for the selected device, reserve an IP address as described above.
  3. Click Add a new rule.

  4. Select a Device/IP type.
  5. Select a service type. Choose Custom if you want to enter your own port numbers (single numbers or a range of numbers).
  6. If you select Custom to enter your own port numbers, choose either Single port (external to internal) or Port range from the drop-down menu, and then enter the desired port numbers.

  7. Select a protocol from the Protocol drop-down.
  8. Finally, click Save. The router starts sending incoming requests for the port or range of ports to the associated device.
GFiber reports an error if a new port forwarding rule conflicts with an existing one. If this happens, you can resolve the conflict either by adjusting the settings of the new port forwarding rule or removing the conflicting rule and setting up a new one.
 
To remove a port forwarding rule:

In the advanced settings for the device, click the port forwarding rule you want to remove, then click Remove. GFiber refreshes the advanced settings page for the device, and the rule no longer appears on the list. The router stops sending incoming requests for the port to the device. If you have set up a DMZ for your network, the router begins sending incoming requests for the port to the DMZ. If you do not have a DMZ set up, the router ignores subsequent requests for the port.

Configure a DMZ

A DMZ is a computer or subnet that serves as a neutral zone between the Internet and your GFiber network to prevent outside users from getting direct access to your network, servers, or data. Only one device at a time can serve as the DMZ for your GFiber network.
 
When you configure a DMZ device, the router sends all incoming requests (except requests for forwarded ports) to the IP address for the device. The designation as a DMZ remains in effect until you cancel the DMZ designation or remove the device from your network.

The router starts sending incoming requests to the DMZ as soon as you designate it. So before configuring the DMZ device, configure your port forwarding rules (so requests for these ports are not sent to the DMZ device), and prepare your DMZ device to receive incoming requests.
To designate a device as your network's DMZ:
  1. Reserve an IP address for the device.
  2. Set up your port forwarding rules, if you plan to use any.
  3. Prepare the DMZ device to receive and process incoming requests.
  4. In the advanced settings for the device, change DMZ to On.Only one device can serve as your network's DMZ at a time. If another device is already configured as the DMZ, a message asks if you want to want to switch the DMZ to the current device.

  5. Click Save.
If you disconnect the DMZ device from your network, DMZ is no longer in effect; however, it is restored when the device reconnects.

To stop using a device as a DMZ:

  1. In the advanced settings for the device, change DMZ to Off.
  2. Click Save. The router will ignore all incoming requests that are not for ports with port forwarding rules.
